Curriculum

St John’s is a Catholic College which aims to develop the whole person, engaging the mind, the hands, the spirit and the heart of the student. Our intention is to foster and develop independence, adaptability, creativity, innovation, technological literacy, communication, and critical and reflective thinking. We recognise the importance of developing a sense of global citizenship and social responsibility.

St John’s students engage in a curriculum that is increasingly reflective of best contemporary practice to ensure that they develop skills for success in the ever-changing world. As we evolve our curriculum to engage in 21st century learning our students are more progressively encouraged to experience learning through connections rather than in isolation.

 

St John’s Regional College is currently transitioning from AusVELS to the Victorian Curriculum, with a full implementation of the Victorian Curriculum across all learning areas expected for 2018.

In VCE, students select from thirty-eight study fields that range from the artistic and expressive through to the scientific and technological. We focus on developing students’ sense of preparedness for University, TAFE and future employment. Students with high academic results have the option to accelerate their VCE studies and also extend their learning through University courses.

Our VCAL program engages students in a hands-on approach to learning, developing employability skills through regular work placements in a multitude of industries and TAFE studies based on their desired future pathways. These students engage in a project based approach to learning that is reflective of contemporary practice. Our VCAL students regularly engage and work with our local community.
